a birthday guide, a guide for my birthday

this can't be too obnoxious beause it's already my birthday, so you don't really have to buy me ALL of this.  it's funny, i used to have to be careful because my sweet mom would read my blog, and if i mentioned anything at all i liked, she'd get it for me.  (spoiled only child?, no way!)  so i figured putting it out there day of makes it more of an inspirational guide than a hardfast demand.  right? sure.
